Yes. Many communities do not discuss finances with potential residents. At Hermitage Roanoke, we include a financial and actuarial review for many reasons. Most importantly, we want to be sure residents can live on their terms and do not have to move again if they are blessed with longevity or if their level of living needs change.
Hermitage Roanoke is a not-for-profit organization and part of Pinnacle Living, and that means something to us. We form a lifetime relationship with our residents and commit to assisting those who, through no fault of their own, cannot fully meet the financial responsibilities of their residence or care.
As with any relationship, this one is based on reciprocity. By reviewing your financial and actuarial projections, we can be sure that the plan to call our community home is the right one. The Samaritan Program provides peace of mind to residents blessed by longevity but has outlived their financial resources. Pinnacle Living has never asked a resident to leave solely based on their inability to pay for the services we provide. This has been integral to who we are since our founding in 1948.
Yes. Assisted Living communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia are licensed through the Department of Social Services (DSS). In addition to being licensed by the DSS, Hermitage Roanoke is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Fewer than 15% of the communities in the nation are reviewed, approved and certified by CARF. We are proud to hold up this seal of approval for our residents and their families.
Different communities may define “Assisted Living” differently—make sure any community you consider matches your expectations. You should ask good questions about how the community could assist if your needs change.
Perhaps most importantly, you should know what is essential to make you feel at home—driving a car? Preparing meals or snacks? Entertaining friends? Getting out into the community? Do they provide flexibility and conform to your schedule, or do they have set hours to get up, eat meals or receive services?
Many people considering moving to an Assisted Living community find themselves at a time of change in life. Perhaps their ability to drive safely has changed. That often brings difficulties connecting with friends and families, going to the grocery, bank, church or other key parts of life without relying on others. For those who stay in a single-family home, this change can lead to isolation, poor eating habits and other problems that significantly reduce their quality of life.
Assisted Living at Hermitage Roanoke is programmed and staffed to remove these dangers and replace them with maintenance-free living and easy opportunities for privacy or social interactions. Most importantly, these programs and activities connect residents with their loved ones and the greater community, on their terms and as they direct. They enjoy a much richer social and mental life. Many residents find their physical health significantly improves when they move to Hermitage Roanoke, usually because living in a better home has enhanced their emotional and mental health.
